A residential quality swimming pool is a huge investment, and as such, a large part of its success depends on the people involved. If you would like to build a new quality swimming pool or renovate an existing one, you should interview at least three companies before hiring anyone. And while considering swimming pool builders, look out for the following warning signs.
No Credentials Are a No-Go
First things first: you should never hire a contractor without a license. As much as we’d like to believe otherwise, not everyone is honest about their qualifications. But credentials don’t lie, and quality pool designers should have no problem passing the test needed for a local pool contractor’s license.
A Quality Swimming Pool Should Include a Quality Warranty
If a company is confident in its work, it will show in their warranty. Does the company guarantee all of their work? If not, that could be a sign that they expect problems with the final product.
If It Seems Too Good to Be True, It Probably Is
Exorbitant prices are a typical turn-off, but if a company is offering prices thousands of dollars lower than their competitors, that too may be a red flag. Why? Low-quality swimming pool companies have been known to cut costs by using substandard materials or unqualified subcontractors. Everyone wants a good deal, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of durability.
All of the above can be used to help you choose a company to work with. But one of the best ways to figure out if you’ll be working with quality pool designers is to ask for references. Getting the truth from former customers is an excellent way to size up a company. No amount of research can give you a 100 percent guaranteed good experience. But by being alert, you can sift out the obviously low-quality pool designers.
