What’s the Perfect Filtration System?
There are three main filters used in residential swimming pools.
- Aggregate (usually sand)
- Disposable cartridges
- Pre-coat filtration / Diatomaceous Earth (DE)
Filtration effectiveness is measured in microns — the smaller the number, the better the filtration.
DE and disposable cartridge filters can remove particulate down to 5 microns.
Sand filtration can remove particulate down to 7 microns.
Between DE and disposable cartridge, which is best?
Disposable cartridges are most effective for small swimming pools.
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) filters are often preferred for larger pools.
Filtration efficiency depends on how much water can pass through the filter per hour. Make sure your filter’s flow rate matches your pool size. At least half the water should be filtered every hour.
The “perfect” pool filtration system setup will vary from pool to pool. Ask your pool designer or installer what the best system is for your swimming pool. Call Pool Doctor of the Palm Beaches at 561-203-0270 for a free consultation today!
